The Washington State K-12 Science Learning Standards (WSSLS) are the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These standards describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

NRC Conceptual Framework

The National Research Council (NRC) published , to propose a new approach to K-12 science education, that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field.

Evaluation Tools for NGSS Alignment

  • provides free reviews of published K-12 instructional materials. Their reports offer evidence-rich, comprehensive information about a program's alignment to the standards and other indicators of quality.
  • provides criteria to measure how well lessons and units are designed for the NGSS.
  • is intended to support those who develop, review, select, or use instructional materials by helping create a common vision of high-quality materials that are designed for the NGSS.
  • describes trends on what to look for when designing or selecting materials to ensure students and teachers have curricula that meet the full intent of the NGSS.
