Professional Development

海角社区 sponsors various virtual professional development events each year and will resume in-person trainings as possible. All events will be posted here when dates are determined. These trainings support school staff in meeting legislative requirements for comprehensive sexual health education as described in RCW 28A.300.475.

Some listed training events may be sponsored by 海角社区 partners and are listed here as resources only. 海角社区 does not have control over the content of those training events.

Training Course Content Sponsoring Organization
"Spark Trainings" on confidentiality best practices, being an askable adult, adolescent sexuality, being youth-friendly, and other topics. Short, free mini-trainings for staff/provider training.
Virtual Professional Development for sexual health educators. Includes free recorded training modules, as well as online fee-based training using classroom simulators and instructional coaches for elementary, middle or high school sexual health instruction. Sessions can be done individually or in small groups.
Rights, Respect, Responsibility (3Rs) curriculum trainings for educators and trainers, individual and group, synchronous and asynchronous.
Racial Justice in Sex Education: E-Learning Modules, five modules each 30-45 minutes in length, free.
The Respect Workshop -The course teaches school professionals how to provide direct services and utilize school-based practices that promote sexual health and responsibility among LGBTQ students. Free online course with three self-paced modules,
Teen Sexuality Online Workshops, including abstinence, birth control, STDs, LGBTQ issues in schools, sexual anatomy and response, pregnant and parenting teens, relationship skills, and boys/sex ed; offered through Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.
eLearning Courses on adolescent sexuality, sexual health services.
Dating Matters: Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention, a web-based course for middle and high school educators.
Customized workshops for educators and other professionals who provide sexuality education to people with developmental disabilities.
HIV Fundamentals E-Learning Course
FLASH: Self-paced FLASH Teacher Training Modules:?School districts in King County, WA have free, year-round access to online, self-paced FLASH teacher training modules. Teachers in King County, WA can access the modules by contacting their school district health coordinator. Outside of King County, WA, these modules are available for 90-day purchase at . Online FLASH training modules are designed for teachers and others who will be facilitating FLASH lessons at any grade level. They are short, self-paced modules that cover the most common questions teachers have, including videos of real teachers modeling the skills.
"Growing Up Trans Professional Development Collection" was developed for educators to provide a deeper understanding of gender identity and explore best practices for providing safe, inclusive classrooms and schools.
